A man who contaminated sweets with tranquilliser and distributed them to youngsters at a youth camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two children aged nine and ten years old.
The accused was taken into custody after eight minors and one adult experienced illness at the facility in mid-summer.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.
However, he denied one particular crime he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.
The defendant was kept in jail prior to a further hearing on 28 November.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, described Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She stated his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a youth camp which he ran.
The defendant conducted a "sweet game" with the children, the prosecutor explained, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to consume candy "rapidly".
She told the court the defendant had conducted this practice with the young males "over an extended period", and children had previously become sick the following morning.
She explained the man had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had worries in recently.
The prosecutor stated further: "In the summer" his stepchild had worries about the activities, for good reason.
"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."
Mrs Prior KC explained items including lubricant, petroleum jelly and medical needles were found, and his stepson notified the law enforcement about his suspicions.
She stated Ruben proceeded to conduct the "candy game" with six children that night - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that time," she added.
The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was examining law enforcement's management of the incident.
Mrs Prior said the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the stepson called the authorities a second time.
She stated Ruben then conducted the "treat game" in a room of five youngsters.
